This book was fantastic in supporting children within our Nurture Provision. I work in a Pupil Referral Unit with pupils who have experienced a range of Adverse Childhood Experiences, which means that they in turn struggle to meet the typical milestones and struggle with a range of social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH). Snouffles helped to support mindfulness within my class and as part of an individualised approach, we saw pleasing progresses in pupils SEMH. Would highly recommend!

A great book for your children and for your inner child. The stories give you a great opportunity to get into sensitive subjects, to better understand your emotions and take control over them, and also to approach meditation at an early stage in life. Thank you, Cath!

A parents perspective this book is amazing for any child and can be used for relaxation or just a fun interactive read. I have a child with anxiety who is 8 and he has found this book phenomenal at bedtime to help his mind relax and enjoy being taken somewhere else and to think about the facts that each story is trying to relay. It’s a very subtle way of showing children that there are indifferences in life and that is ok, it also teaches that everyone deals with situations differently and that too it’s ok. From a child’s perspective “it’s awesome” … sorry he’s a child of few words

Our family just returned from a week-long Festival for Home Educating Families! At this Festival I came across a new amazing book that I want to recommend to you today! The Festival was full of various workshops for children and whole families, and one of them was titled “Snouffles – Stories for Confidence and Peace”: it was on every day for the entire week. And although my children love stories we somehow missed this workshop for the first two days because of the busy schedule…

On the 3rd day of the Festival we finally came to this workshop… and immediately all three of my children and myself fell in love with the stories! Needless to say we were there for every reading every day for the rest of the Festival and my children could not get enough of it!

Over the course of the week we became friends with Catherine Deans, the author of the book, and her partner Dave, who’s been reading the stories. The children got so used to listening to Dave’s voice, that would put them into a meditative state. And when at the end of the week Catherine offered to read the next story, the children showed that they prefer Dave to continue the reading (sorry Cath!! 😄)

Now back from the Festival, and my children’s been asking me to read all stories again at bedtime and we are now through this book for the second time around! Seeing my children loving this book so much I wanted to share this with you and recommend this book!

🌺🌺🌺 “Snouffles – Stories for Confidence and Peace” by Catherine Deans.🌺🌺🌺

This book is written as children’s stories, so if you have children I would really recommend you get this book! Also get this book as a present for your friends who have children! It would make an amazing present! ❤️

So here is what this book is about and why I am recommending it to you.
While the book’s characters are going about their day playing, interacting with each other or going on adventures, their thoughts and emotions are described as somethings real and valid and you get to see them with amazing clarity. There is no judgment of any emotion as being a “bad” or “good” feeling, every emotion is described as a matter of fact and connected to the thoughts that have caused it.

Every story starts with what sounds like a meditation, and it is an amazing resource to introduce children to a guided meditation, which they could be looking forward to every day. It guides them through noticing their breathing and relaxing, then tells a new story of adorable characters called Snouffles. Each story describes one difficult feeling where the character would recognise the thoughts that caused that feeling and find a way to deal with it by choosing better feeling thoughts.

It is an amazing resource to teach children to recognise emotions and deal with them in a peaceful and confident way. Needless to say it is useful for adults as well: I have really benefited from these stories myself 🙂

At the end of each story there is a set of questions to help reflect on the story… Here are the answers that my 12 years old gave to some of the questions: “Our thoughts change our perspective of the world… Negative thoughts can bring a negative perspective of the world, and positive thoughts can bring a positive perspective of the world”…

Hope this serves you and your family enjoys it as much we did!!

‘First Class’
After reading this book it’s a must to help young children. The author has really put her heart and soul into this book. This should be a must for all school libraries.

This book is written with such beautiful and simple words and yet powerful enough to reach to the bottom of our hearts. Just check the para below....

"Then Turquoise Snouffle looked at the other fish whilst thinking different kinds of thoughts; first picking fault with the fish, thinking about what was wrong with it; and then deciding to see only beauty. Each time the fish seemed to respond, changing to become what the Snouffle happened to be thinking at that moment... By choosing which thoughts to have, the Snouffle could change how beautiful or interesting the fish appeared... Turquoise Snouffle could decide whether they were beautiful or not!
The Snouffle was amazed, and believed that something really important had been discovered. Other Snouffle’s opinions were just that; something that they chose to believe and NOT the truth."

I honestly recommend to every parent and every human being who is interested in growing their understanding of emotions and becoming more peaceful and resilient.
