Catherine Deans - Author
Catherine studied Psychology to degree level and subsequently trained as a hypnotherapist and stress management consultant, a vocation that she has continued for twenty years. During this time she became aware of how unresolved difficulties of childhood can contribute hugely to anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties in adulthood. From her work with children and families it became clear that there existed a common lack of understanding about the mind and the dynamics of conflict.
With a view to finding an accessible way of bringing more understanding and skills to children, Cath trained to be a primary school teacher. Whilst teaching; Cath thought hard about what could support children in their emotional development in a way that didn’t require going to see a therapist and that could be delivered by those with no specialist skills, the result is The Snouffles stories.
As well as an excellent tool for skilled therapists to use, it also serves to teach both children and the adults who support them, how to find confidence and inner peace.
Andrea Graham – Co-Creator
Friends since University, Andrea and Catherine have a long history together. Andrea helped Catherine to first formulate the idea of the Snouffles. Together they tried out ideas and thought about how the stories might work, between them they conceived the idea that the characters would be gender neutral and that the book would have no gender pronouns thus allowing all children to identify equally with the characters in the stories. Andrea was then instrumental in the editing process which was quite a task due to the unusual syntax that arose from having gender neutral characters.
Andrea is also a hypnotherapist and writer.
Maya Loreto-Miller - Artist
Maya created the beautiful cover for the book and gave form to the creatures that inhabit the land of the Snouffles. She also created the lovely illustrations that are animated into the fun little Snouffles clips that you will find on social media.
